Glennallen July 7th 10th

Our plan was to go back to Glennallen then head down to the Kenai Peninsula and visit Seward, Whitter and maybe Homer. As the weather had changed here in Valdez, we checked it for the Kenai. Rain and low clouds for at least a week, can't see much in the rain, so we decided to head for Dawson City instead. We kept going from Glennallen to Tok and checked the road reports. Road closed, forest fires in the area, the smoke so thick they had to use a pilot car to get you through. The only option was to head back the way we came. Back over that really rough road. Not too bad going back when I took my time and slowed to a crawl over the bad parts. Everything in the trailer was mostly in one piece when we got to the campsite.

This time in Tok we stayed at Alaska Stove Campsite. There was one of these in every site and a lot of old stoves around the campground.

We got to the border and we waited for an hour and a half to get through. Not that many cars in front but there was a problem of some kind. They put another person on and it went much faster. No problems at customs, on to Snag Creek for the night. The mosquitos were not as bad as the first time we were here. Another big thunder and lightning storm over night with lots of rain. It cleared up for our trip to Haines Junction. We are back in Pine Lk. T.P. Other than the road conditions, it is a very pretty drive. We will stay here for a for a couple of nights. I was hoping to take a plane ride to Mt. Logan, the tallest mountain in Canada but again the clouds put an end to that thought.

On the side of the road from Tok to Haines Junction there are acres and acres of fireweed. A close up of fireweed.

A couple of other interesting flowers.

We had planned on seeing more of Alaska but things sometimes don't work out. To tell the truth, we are missing the brats, young and old. Yes, a little homesick. Should be home the beginning of August.

Tomorrow we head for Whitehorse, restock and continue on our way home.
