Haines June 26th 28th
The ferry ride was just as you would expect, a ferry ride. A few waterfalls but not the scenery we were expecting. Looking back to Skagway. A cruise ship following us out.
A cruise ship in Haines port.Getting off the ship. Not a big deal.
For some reason, Haines did not appeal to either one of us. Not sure why, maybe because it is spread out and you really couldn't walk to town from our campsite. The RV park was very nice, full hookups and more space than some. If you were from the cruise ship, it would be quite a climb to get to the upper part of town. We did explore the area but that only took a couple of hours.
Looking back up the channel from the beach.
We picked up a few groceries, there was no milk left in town, all three stores. Good thing Pat froze some, for her coffee and cereal. With Haines done, next day we headed back to Canada. There was a long stretch of road that the river had flooded over. The crews were building it back up when we went through. Luckily it wasn't too muddy. No big long hill like there is on the Skagway side.
High water, along with a nice mountain shot.
Went through customs with no hassle and spent the night at Kathleen LK. in Kluane National park. A fellow from Maryland locked his keys in his car, so I went down to see if I could help. They had all kinds of wires and such but nothing seamed to work. He was pushing on the unlock button but it would not unlock. I suggested that we straighten out a hot dog stick a see if we could hook the keys. I got the keys on the hook and was pulling them towards the door when they fell off down between the seats. Poor guy, I thought he was going to cry, I might have. Did I ever feel bad. They decided that they might have better luck with a stick, being that it would be stiffer. He finally got it in the right position and voila, the door unlocked.
A big thunder cloud rolled in and deposited a lightning bolt very close to the trailer, what a bang. Then it got nice again.
Spending the night in Pine LK TT Park. Farther north tomorrow.
