Atlin June 18th 21st.
As far as we are concerned, Atlin is right at the top of our favorite places. From the scenery, the people and the town, for us, it had it all.
Now, if you were in the main campground, not out on the spit as we were, you may have a different opinion. Although they were all jammed together, there was lots of room out front of the rigs and the views are as spectacular as ours.
After we got set up and sat in the sun taking in the view, we decided to walk into town. It is a five to ten minute walk, just right. As it was my birthday, Pat decided that she would treat me to a dinner out. The restaurant didn't open till six, so we took in the sights around town.
This dining experience was one of the highlights of our stay in Atlin. Because the restaurant opened at six, it filled up quite quickly. The staff was very friendly and made everyone feel at home. Orders were taken and as it is a smaller place, everyone knew what everybody had ordered. A good thing, the poor waitress and the computer had different table numbers, so as the food was coming out, it was going to the wrong tables. As we all knew what table ordered what, we all directed the food to the correct places. It was like one of those English comedies on TV. It was all good fun, the poor waitress was not too happy but it all got sorted in the end. The food was very good, as was the entertainment. It is a family run affair, so when the back hoe operator finished filling in a hole, he came to wait tables. One of our favorite experiences so far.Birch Mountain has an elevation of 2059 meters, It is the highest point of land on an island in the world. As seen from town.
Atlin Mountain, 2029m. Atlin lake 137km long. Atlin is the most northwesterly town in BC.
In the first photo, above Pat's head is the Juneau Icefields. They extend from the southern tip of Atlin Lk. to the Pacific near Juneau. It is one of the largest icefields outside the polar regions.

Next day we took a drive down the lake to take in the sights.
Warm Bay looking back up the lake.
At the end of the road. Just called the Grotto. The water is flowing out of the rocks. At the top of the turn around we saw a Porcupine, waddled off into the bush, befor I could bet a picture.
On our way back, we stopped here, Pine FallsWe then drove up to forestry campsites on McDonald Lk. and Surprise Lk. We were not going to get our trailer in either one of these but very pretty.
