Jasper May 27th 29th

Driving the Columbia Icefields Parkway is always a treat. Along with awesome mountains, you usually get to see wildlife. We were not disappointed, two Mountain Goats, two Rocky Mountain rams and a bear.

We like to camp at Wabbbaso, it is a little out of Jasper but nice and quiet, with a lot less people.

We were sitting out at the fire but the wind came up and drove us inside.

Went into Jasper to get a few things, very expensive, not near as many people around as in Banff.

Along the road to the campsite is a side road to Mt Edith Cavell, we have passed it many times and not gone up there. We thought this is the time, wrong, closed, still to much snow. Oh well, still something new for next time.

Pyramid and Patricia Lks. were next on the ticket, A new spot for us, just up behind Jasper. More very nice views.

The last time we were here, in the late summer,  we drove up to Maligne and Medicine Lk. We wanted to see what it looks like in the spring, late winter, lol. Last time we could not find parking at Maligne, so we just turned around and came back. This time only very light crowds, actually not bad at all. The lake is still froze over, still nice views. Pat and I standing in the snow and a few others.

Medicine Lk. is an oddity, the Maligne river comes out of Maligne Lk. and flows down the valley to a level spot. At the exit end, the river flows underground for ten kilometers to emerge back into the canyon. As the caves and fishers that the water flows through are only so big, in high melt times Medicine Lk. is formed.
This one is from last year.

As we drove out from Maligne Lk. we spotted these two.
We got back to the campsite to have this girl walk through.
We left Jasper and we are now in Prince George to restock and do laundry. The most expensive campsite (RV Park) so far $105.00 for two nights. Ouch. Although To do laundry at a laundromat would have cost almost half that, we can do it in the trailer and we would have had to pay something to camp elsewhere. Off to Moberly Lk. PP tomorrow.
